NETLON GOES
BACK TO SCHOOL
Two schools
located in Dorset and Luton are now able to use attractive grassed
areas for overflow car parking without damaging the ground, thanks
to a unique plastic paving system from Netlon. Netpave
25 is now providing support and stability to grassed areas at the
two schools, enabling them to be used for car parking without spoiling
the aesthetics of the areas.
At Clayesmore
School in Dorset Richard Tremellen, the Buildings and Estate Manager,
found that when sports days and similar events were held parents
would park on the grass verges alongside the driveway which leads
up to the main building. In wet weather this wreaked havoc on the
turf, churning up the edges and creating muddy patches. The installation
of Netlon's simple paving solution means the turf now looks great
all year round and Richard is delighted with the results.
A similar problem
faced Facilities Manager Stephen Baker at South Luton High School.
As a community college, the school is regularly used for evening
classes and other after-hours events, and visitors' cars quickly
fill the hard surface car park. Looking for a cost effective way
to provide additional parking, Stephen found that Netpave 25 was
the ideal solution.
Netpave 25 is
a recently introduced easy-to-lay plastic paving system designed
to protect turf from both human and vehicular traffic. The half
metre-square paver units are designed to be laid on top of existing
grass and simply clip together to form a stable ground surface.
Once laid, the grass grows through and the pavers virtually disappear.
Both Stephen
and Richard found the pavers very easy to install. At South Luton
High School, the only additional work needed was the removal of
kerb stones at the edge of the site to allow vehicle access, and
at Clayesmore School the team simply created a boundary to protect
the edge of the parking area. Netlon
also provides white plastic markers which can be slotted into the
paver units to mark out parking spaces. Stephen Baker found them
an "essential" asset in Luton. "I'm
really enthusiastic about the result," he said. "Netpave
25 was economic and easy to lay, easy to handle, and it does exactly
what I was told it would. It's given us 20 extra parking spaces
at a fraction of the cost of a traditional car park, and I've referred
several other people as a result."
Should either
school find their need for parking increases in the future, it would
now be a straightforward job to add more pavers to the existing
Netpave 25 system, and solve the problem quickly and easily.
Netlon is an
acknowledged leader in the development and application of plastic
mesh products for use in horticulture, civil engineering and agriculture.
Netlon Turf Systems has developed a range of technologies and products
to improve the capabilities of grassed areas to withstand heavy
and intensive wear. In addition to Netpave 25 the range includes
products designed to cater for a wide variety of turf protection
situations, from a lightweight protective mesh capable of coping
with light traffic to an engineered turf and rootzone system and
more permanent paving, both capable of handling all kinds of traffic
up to and including heavy goods vehicles.
