NETLON PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR SOLICITORS
Combining an aesthetically pleasing landscape design with access
facilities for heavy maintenance and emergency vehicles
is a problem faced at many new developments.
At one, a
purpose built office block for Keoghs Solicitors in Bolton,
Lancashire, the solution has been provided by a product from the
Netlon turf protection portfolio. The landscape plans –
drawn up by Landscape Projects, Manchester – incorporated a 3m wide
access route around the office block with a sloped access ramp to
provide regular access for cherry pickers needed for window cleaning
and roof work, as well as providing access for emergency service
vehicles should they be required.
Although the
area remains untouched for much of the time, it had to be able to
withstand the weight of both the cherry pickers and larger emergency
vehicles. Netpave 50 was selected as the ideal product to combine
the natural turf finish with the strength required over the 720m2,
all within the project’s budget. “We regularly have
heavy cherry pickers on the site for cleaning windows, and for
access to the roof,” said Mark Shuttleworth, Keoghs Facilities
Coordinator. “Compared to the damage I would expect to see without
reinforcement in the turf, the area is certainly holding up well.
We’ve had no problems with it.” Netlon’s Netpave 50
consists of half metre square paver units connected by lugs and
slots. These unique flexible elements simply clip together to
provide protection against traffic up to and including heavy goods
vehicles, and can be laid on undulating surfaces and gradients as
well as on flat ground.
Once laid, the
pavers can be filled either with soil/grass, or with gravel. If
soil/grass is used, the cellular structure and open base of the
pavers enables unrestricted root growth. Where pavers are filled
with gravel, the cellular structure will retain the stone and
prevent loss or displacement. At Keoghs the cellular structure was
filled with soil, and grass laid over the top.
Netlon offers
the UK’s most comprehensive range of turf protection solutions. The
company has developed a range of technologies and products to
improve the capabilities of grassed areas to withstand heavy and
intensive wear. In addition to Netpave 50 the range includes
products designed to cater for a wide variety of turf protection
situations, from a lightweight protective mesh capable of coping
with light traffic to an engineered turf and rootzone system capable
of handling all kinds of traffic up to and including heavy goods
vehicles.
Netlon’s experience covers a wide range of applications including
access routes, car parks, sports fields, events and amenity areas,
helicopter landing pads, aircraft taxiways, and even land
sculptures.
